Good Friday, dear readers! Hope you had an amazing week and I wish you an even more awesome weekend. Today I have quite an odd topic to talk about. I'm almost sure at least one of you has wondered "Why is your blog in (British) English?" and so I thought it'd be fun to talk a little bit about that and also include some random facts related to that matter. Hope you enjoy! ^^
Let's start from the beginning then. At age 5 my mum sent me to English lessons, which at first I hated because I had to wake up really early and also there was a mean dog in the building where the class was, so I was terryfied to even go inside. Anyway, time passed and I kept going to these lessons and by the age of 18 I got my Cambridge University Certificate of Proficiency in English, sounds so fancy, almost like I attended there but I didn't, it's just the name of the international diploma you get once you pass the exam.
Even though we are surrounded by TV shows and films from the US, ironically most language study centres teach British English and very few do American, the closest one to my home taught the first kind so that's why I followed that path. The reason why I chose to keep my writing and accent British (well sorta, wish it was better... I should practice!) is because I fell in love with it and much prefer how everyting sounds in BrE than AmE. By no means I hate the latter, is a matter of taste, I'm almost certain that if you heard someone from Colombia speaking Spanish and then me, the first accent would sound a lot softer and sweet to you than mine. That's how I feel about BrE.
Now as to the actual question why I decided to write my blog in the so-many-times-aforementioned language is because the beauty community, in its majority, is comprised of English speaking people and I wanted to relate, bond and belong to this wonderful world of wonder ; ) Also, as my dear blogger friend Coco said, the "beauty language" comes naturaly to me in English, I don't even know how to translate some words in Spanish, such as "crease" (I call it 'pliegue' but I'm sure that's wrong, though it literally means that), "brow bone" ('hueso debajo de la ceja' that's too long!) or "primer" ('@#*!?'). I did manage to write my blog in both languages for almost a year but it got really difficult and frustrating so I don't anymore.
Random facts:
*-I don't need to read subtitles unless Liam Gallaher is talking; I guess we all need captions for that!
*-The most amazing book I've ever read in BrE is 'The Remains of the Day' by 石黒一雄 (Ishiguro Kazuo) and I loved the film they did based on it too.
*-If I ever go to England, I want to visit Stratford-upon-Avon (birthplace of Shakespeare) and Newcastle-upon-Tyne (where some of the biggest ships in the world got built... I'm obsessed with the sea and boats, seaguls, sand, rocks, fish and everything else about it!).
*-I love 'Budín Inglés', a Christmas treat, literally translated to 'English Pudding', but that looks nothing like it, it's actually a long, rectangular and dry cake... see what I mean about translating?
*-I've tried reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and I had to check the dictionary every three words, wasn't fun so I abbandoned the book : /
*-I aced all English tests in highschool, they were soooo easy! Plus I've always been geeky and love studying (*-O‿O-*)
